Three SEO Must Haves

Updated: Jul 7, 2022

If you wonder what the elusive SEO is, you're not alone. SEO stands for search engine optimization. Translation: the way that robots on the internet locate and share your business. There are little bots that play across the vastness of the internet. As the bots frolic, there are certain things the bots like most. These things are SEO, and these things drive traffic to your website. All it takes is a few things to get your site bot-approved. These bots work for Google, Youtube, Bing, and more to optimize your site.

It is important to note that at the writing of this article, these are the recommended ways to update your website. However, the rules change, sometimes these changes occur annually, and sometimes more frequently. Staying in the know can make sure all the time, money, and effort you put into your website is worth all the time, money and effort.

Let's dive in:

  1. Every page on your website needs SEO. This means, inserting keywords, meta data, and more. Lately, most platforms make this really easy to find and to complete. Take for example Wix.com, which this site is built on. Check it:

Once you find the location for SEO, then start inputing the requirements. Now that you found where the SEO needs to be, what do I write in these SEO spaces?!

2. Write meta descriptions. Meta descriptions are what populate when people search for products or services. These are important, and you can easily write proper meta from taking a quick look at your competitors. Meta descriptions should include:

  • what the reader will experience when they arrive at your web page

  • a fair representation of your content

  • around 155 characters

  • your focus keyword

3. Frequently update with rich content. As a small business owner, you're busy. You don't have a lot of time to write blog posts, make videos, or manage social content. We understand. However, in this Forbes article, it reminds us that search engines , "...give preference to sites with more rapport. Typically, this is built with time, building backlinks, and the amount of content that you have." These things take time, so dedicating a day biweekly, or at least monthly is one of the surest ways to build up your search page ranking. Blogs can be 300 words minimum, however the preferred lengths are upwards of 2,000 words. Again, this can be time consuming. May we suggest an outline for blogging, a solid keyword research, and fresh photos? If this is beyond the time you have in a given day, it is important to note that all areas of supporting your brand can build SEO - youtube videos, social media posts, news articles can all add to building up your brand via search.
